A bit about me - in a nutshell, mental wellness and living with more ease is what gets me out of bed in the morning!

For me, there is nothing more rewarding than helping people to rekindle their spark!

I consciously hold an inclusive, open, safe space for you to be and feel seen, heard and valued.

Due to both my work and personal experience I’ve always been drawn to the field of mental health and working with people to feel better and develop trust in themselves, especially after experiencing anxiety in my younger years and finding the tools and support I needed to get back on track myself.

About Marianne

I have worked for many years in complex mental health and homelessness charities, and in psychiatric mental health care for the NHS.

I am also a trauma-informed yoga facilitator with a special interest in complex trauma and yoga for anxiety and depression. I offer private, one-to-one therapeutic yoga sessions also.

I have used clinical hypnotherapy, personally, for pregnancy/birth (as a parent of a young child) and found it to be so effective and empowering that I decided to become a Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist! So as you can see the world of mental health and wellness is not only an area I have vast experience in, but it’s what drives me and lights my fire!

My therapeutic approach

Solution-focused hypnotherapy is an empowering tool for life. A forward-looking, evidence-based approach to help you achieve the positive changes you seek in your thoughts, perceptions, feelings, and behaviours. 

Unlike many other therapies, we focus less on the things that are troubling you and focus instead on how you would like to feel and you would like things to be.

It’s a bit like therapeutic coaching with deep guided relaxation, where I create the safe container for you to come up with achievable solutions to the issues bothering you.

This gentle, skilled talking therapy combines hypnosis with practical, accessible insights from leading brain research and neuroscience explaining how the brain works, why we can suffer as we do, and what we can do about it. 

Sometimes life can feel really tricky, and we might want to find some space to help get back on track in life within the safety of a professional therapeutic relationship. I’m passionate about the potential of the solutions-focused therapeutic relationship to enable a process of growth and change at a pace that suits you.

I fully believe that each of us has the potential to adapt and grow given the right conditions, and that by being heard, valued and encouraged to make positive changes (no matter how small), we can become curious about ourselves and discover these resources that we have already within us.

Taking the decision to come to hypnotherapy can take enormous courage. This is a big step towards improving your quality of life, your self confidence, your relationships and living with more calm, ease and happiness.

Sessions are in-person and online

All psychotherapy, hypnotherapy and yoga therapy sessions are currently in-person (in my private therapy space in Easton, Bristol BS5) or online via Zoom.

In some cases I can come to your house.

What is Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy?

Well, that’s a good question!

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a forward-looking talking therapy and a valuable tool for life.

It can make a positive difference to the way we think and react by changing old patterns of thinking and behaviour, enabling us to cope much better with life’s challenges.

The therapy focuses on easing stress, anxiety or depression (among other things), focusing on your strengths and resources enabling you to look forward to a more positive future where you are more in control of your thoughts, feelings and actions.

What happens in a solution-focused hypnotherapy session?

Using Solution Focused Brief Psychotherapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), we work together in each session to help you cope with the challenges in your life, to find achievable solutions to the areas in your life you wish to change and practical ways of reaching them.

I then guide you through a relaxing session of hypnosis. Most clients find hypnosis a really enjoyable and nourishing experience. Hypnosis is a completely natural state of deep relaxation (you remain in control the entire time); where your subconscious mind becomes focused, clear and is more aware.

This approach is empowering for you and clinically proven to have effective results; most importantly giving you the tools for lasting change.

But how does hypnosis work? …I hear you ask!

When we relax the mind in this way it is easier for the brain to take on new information and create new patterns of positive thinking, overwriting the previous, unhelpful thinking patterns.

With practice each week, the brain becomes more responsive to the new thinking patterns and new ways of responding or behaving that you practice. You gradually begin to move away from old, unhelpful habits and form a new, positive habits.

Hypnosis (deep relaxation) is perfectly safe and you will remain in control at all times, I will be guiding you, just the same way I would a deep relaxation in one of my yoga classes.

For clients coming for an extended course of sessions; techniques such as solution-focused brief psychotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) , positive psychology and mindfulness may also be used to help implement positive and lasting changes.

You’ll be given guided relaxation/hypnosis mp3s (or CDs depending on your preference), support material and homework (only where appropriate, panic not!).
