how it works
initial consultation
We start with a relaxed initial consultation, this is an informal chance for us to talk about how best to support you. For all of my therapy sessions, I recommend we begin with a brief initial consultation (free of charge) - this can be by phone or online.

This call is an information-gathering chat, where you can tell me what you would like support with and find out more about how best I could help you. It's also a good opportunity for you to sense whether I feel like a good fit for you.

Following our call, if you decide to go ahead and book a session, I’ll email you a relaxation track to listen to, which really helps the process in the following sessions. You'll likely see a difference!
how the sessions work
All sessions can be held in-person from my private therapy space in East Bristol or online

Solution-focused Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy
Solution-focused hypnotherapy is a tool for life - supporting you to achieve the positive changes you seek in your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. This gentle and transformational approach can be surprisingly fast-acting and empowering for you to feel better in your self, your life and your relationships.

Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic process of using both psychotherapy (talking therapy) and relaxing hypnosis - a relaxed state of awareness, in which you are always in control - to help you overcome the challenges in your life and empower you to move forwards.

You can think of it a bit like therapeutic coaching, in which I create a safe container for you to get to root of the issues bothering you and support you in exploring how you would like things to be, how you would like things to change. This is a solution focused approach, and we explore this in a way that feels beneficial for you and your unique circumstances.
Unlike other traditional analytical therapies, the focus is less orientated around the issues of your past and instead more on how you would like to feel and how you would like things to be, positively reframing your future. Evidence shows us that this can be a very effective and transformational way to work together.

This therapeutic approach is based on the latest neuroscience research, and includes elements of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), neuro-linguistic programming, gentle evidence-based trauma processing methods, clinical hypnosis (trance) and relaxation for both your mind and nervous system.

What does a typical session look like?

A typical session begins with solution focused psychotherapy; this involves helping you to understand the issue that’s troubling you and to explore make small changes to your thinking, behaviour and supporting you to live with more ease and confidence.  Following this, I would invite you to get yourself really comfortable and warm and I would guide a bespoke hypnosis to help your brain develop and establish these new ways of thinking and behaving- most people absolutely love this aspect of the therapy! Hypnosis is a relaxed state of awareness, as you relax more deeply, your brain becomes more open to thinking about the things in your life that you'd like to be different, and it does so creatively and positively. Hypnosis (or relaxed trance) helps you regulate and calm your nervous system and teaches you over time to self-regulate and soothe yourself. I talk much more about this in session! If you are still curious to know more about hypnosis, read this. I offer you the space to reflect on how you think things are progressing and we take things at your pace. The beauty of hypnotherapy is that is is effective as both a curative and preventative treatment. HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED? Taking anywhere between 6 sessions and 12 sessions (on average) to get you back on track - the sessions take place weekly, occasionally moving to fortnightly or even monthly. Some clients like to space their sessions out once they are feeling more positive and have noticed real improvement.

Therapeutic Yoga & Somatic Movement
My therapeutic yoga and somatic movement sessions are all about connection with your body, your mind, your thoughts, emotions and your breath. And space to explore how our thoughts and emotions affect how we feel in our body (our mind and body are entirely connected through the workings of our nervous system).
These trauma-sensitive sessions offer you a gentle space to understand and nurture your nervous system. Helping you to connect (or reconnect) with how your body feels, to become aware of and familiar with the sensations in your body (perhaps stress and tension, or ease and lightness), how to support yourself when you feel certain ways and helping you befriend and regulate your nervous system.

We explore restorative yoga and somatic movement (gentle, intentional movement to help release tension), the yoga and movement aspects reflect what it is that would benefit you most. These are typically gentle, slow, restorative and deliberate movements/yoga postures to help you to feel better within and about your body. These movements can help alleviate chronic pain, or stress and tension held in the body, sometimes pain and trauma for previous experiences, or it could be to support you with menstrual cycle challenges or pain, chronic fatigue.....it can be beneficial for so many sensations or tensions in the body.

how a typical session flows
~ checking in (emotionally & physically)
~ understanding your nervous system
~ movement
~ breath
~ guided relaxation (yoga nidra)
Within these sessions we help you to utilise the breath to help you feel safe, grounded and relax, or also to revive energy. Learning how to tap into the power of your breath can be transformational. We work to support your nervous system health, your endocrine system and your immune system. You will develop an understanding of the feeling of being in "survival mode" and explore moving into a more restful state of having greater control and peace. We finish with the deeply restorative and therapeutic of yoga nidra; this is a practice of effortless rest, a guided relaxation which focuses on helping you to rest and relax your body, and notice the sensation Sessions tend to take place weekly, sometimes moving to fortnightly or monthly once you are back on track and things are improving for you. There's no one size fits all!
what is hypnosis?
the question everyone asks!
Hypnosis is a very straight-forward, positive process. It is a trance-like, relaxed mental state in which people experience increased attention, concentration, and suggestibility. We can begin to think more positively about what we'd like to change; most people really enjoy this part of the sessions.

Often, hypnosis is often described as a sleepy, relaxed state - and whilst it is these things, it's also a state of focused awareness, heightened suggestibility and creativity.

Hypnosis, or therapeutic trance, is used in hypnotherapy because, when the mind is calm, relaxed and aware, it allows the conscious and subconscious minds to come together; it opens up the mind to new possibilities, and allows you to rethink some of the misguided or unhelpful patterns of though or behaviour from the past, creating space for how you’d like to think and feel. Allowing you to practice new patterns of thinking or behaving that are in your best interests for your future.
Hypnosis has been shown to have proven medical and therapeutic benefits, most notably in the reduction of pain, anxiety and low mood/depression. Hypnosis helps you reduce negative and unhelpful thinking patterns that cause you stress and keep you feeling "stuck". Our brains are not hard-wired but soft-wired thanks to having neuroplasticity, so we are always able to learn new ways of thinking or behaving - even if you've been thinking or behaving in certain negative or unhelpful ways for years!
